Sevenoaks School Admissions Process

The main points of entry to Sevenoaks School are at 11+ Year 7 (day pupils only) and 13+ Year 9 (day and boarding pupils).
Approximately 80 day pupils are admitted into Year 7. Candidates will sit the ISEB Common Pre-Test if their current school offers this. Candidates attending a school which does not offer the ISEB Pre-Test may submmit a score from the Kent Test or an alternative grammar school test. Candidates not sitting any 11+ exam will be invited to sit a Reasoning test at Sevenoaks School in the autumn. The ISEB result as well as a reference from the candidate's current school will be reviewed and the majority of candidates will be invoted to an assessment day at Sevenoaks School in January of Year 6. The assessment day will include written exams in Maths and English as well as a group discussion activity.
For entry into Year 9 there are two application routes, an early decision and a later decision.

  • Early Decision Route - Candidates will sit the ISEB Pre-Test between September and November of Year 6 and provide a reference from their current school. The majority of candidates will then be invited to an assessment day in January of Year 6 where they will sit written exams in Maths and English, and participate in a 40 minute group discussion led by Sevenoaks teachers. Boarding applicants will also participate in teamwork activities.
  • Later Decision Route - Candidates will sit the ISEB Pre-Test between September and December of Year 7. The majority of candidates will then be invited to an assessment day in January of Year 6 where they will sit written exams in Maths and English, and participate in a 40 minute group discussion led by Sevenoaks teachers. Candidates will also take part in a co-curricular taster activity. Boarding applicants will be invited to attend supper and stay in the boarding houses the night before the assessments.

We have a free ISEB Common Pre-Test familiarisation test for you to gain a brief insight into the exam, and we have full length ISEB Common Pre-Test Mock Tests available to purchase which replicate the format and content of the Entrance Assessment. The ISEB Pre-Test is an online adaptive test, meaning after the first question, each subsequent question is determined by previous responses. Candidates cannot go back to a previous question to change their answer.

The ISEB Common Pre-Test contains the following four subject tests:

  • English - 40 minutes

BOFA ISEB Common Pre-Test Mock Tests

Our BOFA® ISEB Common Pre-Test Mock Tests have been designed and created specifically to replicate the ISEB Common Pre-Test exam situation in order to help pupils familiarise themselves with the format and structure of the ISEB Common Pre-Test exam. Our Mock Tests follow the same three stage learning process as the BOFA® 11+ site (test, practice, retest) but the emphasis is on the exam preparation rather than the learning element. Our Mock Tests are sold in packs of 3 as we believe 3 is the minimum number of tests a pupil will need to complete to become comfortable with the format and style of the exam. You can purchase Mock Tests for the ISEB Common Pre-Test from our Mock Test Shop.

BOFA11+

As well as offering these specific Mock Tests we also offer an online adaptive learning platform on a subscription basis for long term support and exam preparation. Our 11+ subscription site is our unique online learning platform which covers material from 8+ through to 12+, designed to assist pupils in their learning and understanding of syllabus content in preparation for the 11+ exam. All our tests follow our three stage learning process of initial test, followed by tailored teaching and learning before a retest. Although referred to as the 11+ subscription site, a subscription gives you access to all the subscription site material and is therefore suitable for pupils aged 7 to 11, in school years 3 to 6. You can purchase a recurring monthly subscription for £9.50 a month, which can be cancelled at any time, or you can take out a fixed term 3, 6, 9, or 12 month subscription with a one-off payment, prices of which can be found in our 11+ shop.
